As we were getting ready to take Megan to art class yesterday, Megan asked if we could do Eva's hair. Eva didn't seem to mind, although I think I need to pick up some baby elastics! Her hair is so fine that it took quite a while to wrap even the smallest of the elastics I use on the older girls around it. Such a cute little pigtail though!
Megan has been to two more art classes since the last time I posted pictures of her drawings. The first of those classes the used pencil to draw animals; the second they used chalk. Megan says she prefers chalk.
Eva LOVES bouncing. Whenever she's bounced, she gets an enormous open-mouthed grin :) It's difficult to catch on camera though as she's moving. Rob managed to catch a few shots last night. These pictures also caught the red highlights in her hair. Her hair is still pretty dark, although it's lightening up quite a bit just as all the other kids' hair did, but Eva has much more obvious red highlights than the other kids had. Rob's facial hair is reddish when he grows it out and his sister, Kate, has very red hair, so it's definitely in the family!
Megan got a tooth pulled on Wednesday. When she was younger, we discovered that her molars needed sealants. One of them already had a cavity in it, so we had to put her under and she got a "silver tooth". We had to go to a different dentist as our regular dentist doesn't do general anesthesia and Megan wouldn't allow them to give her a shot in her mouth at that point. I am not impressed with the other dentist as apparently he didn't do a good job cleaning the tooth before capping it. We discovered a few months ago that Megan's tooth was rotting underneath the silver, but since it wasn't hurting her, we decided to wait and see how long we could make it. The silver part started wiggling last week, so we took her in to get it checked out. It was pretty far gone, so they pulled it. She was very brave and let them give her a shot (the dentist deadened the area before giving it to her, which we appreciated!). She had a hard time when they pulled it as she could still feel the pressure and kept worrying that it was going to hurt, but she stuck it out! We go back in two weeks so she can get a spacer put in.
Rob and I both thought it was going to take longer to heal than it did. Apparently pulling baby teeth is not like pulling adult teeth. We promised her that if she had to have it pulled, she could stay home from school the day after. We also told her she could have pudding and ice cream for dinner. We got her a frosty (she picked vanilla) for lunch after her appointment thinking she wouldn't be up to eating anything solid for at least a day or so, but she ate half my hamburger and finished off Rob's fries, so apparently it wasn't as bad as we thought it would be. We still let her stay home from school though as we had promised her we would. She drove me crazy! She was bored and Beth picked up on her boredom and decided she was bored too. It was tons of fun ;) Fortunately I had recently bought Beth a new pre-k workbook and was able to distract them both with that. Beth asked Megan to be her teacher, to which Megs responded "I would be HONORED!", which cracked me up :)
It will be interesting to see how Beth handles school next year. She doesn't seemed swayed by a need to be guided by social mores. She has a very definite opinion about things and likes to do things her own way. Yesterday, as she was filling out her pre-k worksheets, she decided she didn't want to color everything on the "orange" page orange as she preferred red and blue balloons. Megan kept trying to explain the directions to her, but she wasn't interested in them. I called her over to me and (after she finally came over - she thought I was going to tell her she had to follow the directions, so it took some coaxing to get her to come over to me), explained to her that the directions were there to try and teach her how to spell each color. We decided as long as she colored the word the color it said, it didn't matter what color she wanted to use on the pictures.
As we arrived home from school on Monday, the garbage truck was down the street from our house. My kids love watching the garbage truck, so we stayed in the driveway and watched as it drove up the street, stopping to empty each garbage can. Down here, all the garbage cans are the same and are designed so the truck's mechanical arm can pick them up and empty them into the back. The kids waved and waved to the garbage man as he got closer. He waved back. They kept waving (especially Jack) and as he waved back again, he apparently got distracted and dropped one of the garbage cans into the truck. Feeling slightly guilty, I took the kids into the house :)
