Easter

Once again I am way behind on my posts. Oh well :) The pictures are getting posted.

Easter was low key. Rob took the kids to church and I slept. I use weekend to sleep now as that way Rob doesn't have to use vacation days to come home and take care of me. We are trying to be more frugal with how we use his vacation days. Last year we ran out in August. How Rob manages to handle six kids by himself at church I don't know, but he does an awesome job :)

When the kids got home from church we gave them their clues to find their Easter baskets. Our Easter bunny hides the baskets and sends the kids on a treasure hunt with clues. That allows us to make the kids wait until after church to eat their candy. Watching six kids at church is difficult enough without having to factor in them bouncing off the walls due to eating high fructose corn syrup.

The first clue read -

Happy Easter Knowlton kids!
Hope that church went really well
The first clue leads to forks and spoons
Where is it? I’ll never tell!

Beth is a goober. So is Kylie. You'd think they were related to Rob or something . . .

That of course led to the silverware drawer, where they found the second clue -

Your next clue might be hard to find
But I know you are really smart
You use pillows to slide down this
Was that enough of a head start?

The big slide in the playroom obviously held the next clue -

You found it!
What a bunch of smarties
Where the next clue is
You could call a sock party

Our Easter bunny obviously is not the poet laureate, but the kids found the next clue in the sock bin (we do not sort socks at our house. It is much cooler to wear mismatched socks) -

You’re almost done
And you’ve done great
Look inside tables
That have six sides, not eight.

They found their baskets hidden in the end tables Rob and I were given a long time ago. Yes, they look like they belong in a 70's sitcom, but they are solid wood and indestructible, even if multiple children stand on them and jump. Those traits are more important in our house than appearance. Someday I will own beautiful matching furniture. Probably just in time to have my grandkids destroy it, but at that point I won't care because grandkids are so cute, right?

The kids each got a pair of pajamas in their baskets. We had them change into them so they wouldn't get candy on their Easter outfits.

After the hunt for the Easter baskets, we dyed hard-boiled eggs then ate them for lunch. That way we didn't end up with dyed eggs that sat in the fridge for weeks until we finally remembered them. Plus the kids got protein that helped balance out the inordinate amounts of sugar they ingested. We don't do much candy for Easter, but we don't do much candy period, so the kids get sugar highs pretty quickly.

We just had the eight of us and Kiki for dinner. We waited for Kiki to come over to do the egg hunt. Not only did Kiki get to be part of it, but the kids had to eat dinner between binging on the candy in their baskets and the candy from the hunt. It worked out well :) This year we tried something new and had each child search for a different color egg. That allowed each of the kids to get the same amount and type of candy.
